Our story founded in 2000 with the same core mission we uphold today, our business began as “Highway Frontage Real Estate”, specializing in matching end users to prime main road and highway sites— particularly for large-format retail (LFR) and quick service restaurant (QSR) leasing and sales. As the self storage industry emerged in Australia, these operators became major users of our highway-fronting sites. Demand surged, and soon self-storage investment transactions dominated our business, taking us nationwide. It was an exhilarating ride—but one that required extensive travel to service this single sector of our little business. By 2012, the self-storage industry was booming, our business “Highway Frontage Real Estate” had become synonymous with self-storage such sales above all our other areas of expertise.
An opportunity arose for us to sell the brand to a partner agency (where it continues to thrive today). We then rebranded our estate agency as Box Commercial, a name reflecting our focus on “boxes”— or buildings of all kinds on main roads and highways, from LFRs and QSRs to service stations, car washes, and outdoor industrial storage, in other words back to where we started before self-storage industry came along.
With technology we are able to add a slightly different twist which should reduce the time for end users to find the right sites. We are keen to develop a market place style, where we market properties for sale in the usual way and also we also market end user requirements for sites as well.

Another trip, another deal. Rob has loved doing deals since he was 12 years old when he sold his go-kart to Peter Davis for ten bucks and a Superman comic. He’s been a licensed real estate agent for more than thirty years, and he’s sold and leased development sites, shopping centers, fast food stores, self-storage complexes, large format retail stores, and convenience centers all over Australia. The commonality of his specialist area has been real estate on main roads and highways. In fact, his colleagues in the industry call him the “Highway Man.” For the most part, he has owned and operated independent real estate agencies such as Box Commercial and Highway Frontage real estate but as a cadet, he worked for real estate companies like Jones Lang LaSalle, DTZ International, and retailers like Spotlight Stores.
